Douglas MacArthur was appointed U.S. General sometime in March 1942.

The Soviets launched a massive counter attack in January 1943 to repulse the Germans from Stalingrad.

Soviet snipers inflicted huge casulities on the German ranks, breaking the moral of the invading army. The battle also took place in one of the harshest Russian winters in modern memory at the time, giving the Soviet soldier the reputation of being the best cold-weather fighter in history.

The Germans were pushed out of Stalingrad on 13 MAR 1943.
